From Big Bang to Zagreb

Some 130 000 years ago , 70 km from Zagreb on Hušnjakovo hill lived an early man known as the Neanderthal.
It's been centuries until in1899 material remains were found that revealed the secrets of human beginnings. There are many questions about early humans, how they lived, what did they do? We will certainly find the answers in the Museum of the Neanderthal in Krapina which in a miraculous and interactive way tells us the story of the nenaderthal. From the time of the first human inhabitants of these areas to date, Zagreb was created.
The development of the medieval twin city, eclesiastical Kaptol and craftsman's Gradec, which by the charter of Bela IV became a free royal city as well as their mutual overlap- all this is revealed to us by permanent exhibits of Zagreb City Museum. The legend of the origins of the name says that an old, tired aand thirsty aristocrat passing through what today is Jelačić square and Manduševac fountain, ordered the girl named Manda to bring him water from the spring. ''Mando, fetch me some water!'' This is supposedly how the name Zagreb was created. There were many legends and stories told about Zagreb and most famous of them were told by Marija Jurić Zagorka, first Croatian woman writer and journalist. You surely heard of novels The Witch of Grič and The Daughter of Lotrščak... we will find out more of her stories in Marija's appartment on Dolac market. And so we will walk with pleasure from the incredibly presented Big Bang in The Krapina Museum to the contemporary metropolis.
