A very sociable adult female with a distinctive dorsal fin that looks like a sickle. She occasionally enters the Mali Lošinj harbour and often helps out other dolphins as a babysitter.
Blue World Institute of Marine Research and Conservation (Plavi Svijet) is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) from Veli Lošinj, Croatia, set up with the intention to carry out scientific research and conservation projects and promote environmental awareness in the Lošinj-Cres archipelago, Croatia and Adriatic region as a whole. Initialy, the Blue World was formed with the direct intention to take over the research and public awareness actions of the Adriatic Dolphin Project (ADP) started and managed by Tethys Research Institute in 1987.
Blue World was founded in 1999. by 10 founders, mostly local but all involved in ADP during previous years. Presently, Blue World carries out four major projects - Adriatic Dolphin Project, Lošinj Dolphin Reserve, Lošinj Marine Education Centre, Research and conservation of marine turtles of the Adriatic in cooperation with Croatian Natural History Museum.
Blue World cooperates with a number of organisations and institutions in Croatia and abroad. Blue World is a partner of ACCOBAMS, The Agreement on Conservation of Cetaceans of Mediterranean, Black sea and contigious Atlantic area.
By participating in the Blue World "Adopt a dolphin" campaign you are supporting the Adriatic Dolphin Project and our activities of research and protection of the bottlenose dolphins and their environment around the islands of Lošinj and Cres.
